The past three weeks I was participating in a Summer Dance Intensive at Dunamix Dance Project in Temecula, and let me tell you it was INTENSE! I learned so much about dance technique, stretching, and discovered so many more types of dance. But, I also grew a lot closer to God in these three weeks.
This dance studio is pretty amazing. The foundations of dancing that they taught are far more valuable than anything another studio could teach. Dunamix is centered around a love for Christ and we all dance to please God.
Every morning when the intensive started we took an hour to read our bibles, talk to Jesus, and spend time discussing in small groups. They taught so many great things! We learned a prayer for forgiveness, and how to break off lies in your own life. I’m pretty sure all of us encountered God in a way we never had before.
Not only did we praise God with our words, but we worshipped him with our dancing. It was so nice to know that I was dancing for a greater purpose, not just to make my instructors happy that I knew the combo, or to show I was a good dancer, but to dance for my Heavenly Father so he would smile down on me and fill me with him.
I also found God in the little things while I was there, such as someone giving up their fork at lunch so I didn’t have to eat my salad with my fingers, a simple smile, or an encouraging word from my friends.
Overall, I had an awesome time and I learned a lot more about dance, myself, and Jesus. It’s affected the rest of my summer as well. Now, every morning I wake up and speak a scripture over my life, mine is
so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
I encourage you to find one that means something to you and make it a routine to say it to yourself everyday. Find one about wisdom, or peace, or even patience and begin to use it in your life to encourage yourself. If you keep repeating it to yourself everyday, you will begin to see it played out in your own life, and that can affect others in a positive way too.
After I say my scripture I ask God what he thinks of me and then I just listen. He will tell me things like I am a precious diamond, or I am talented and wonderful. After, I ask God what he wants me to do that day. Sometimes it’s to help my mom around the house, or give my dad a big hug when he gets home from work. God works through the big things and the small ones too. It’s so cool how you can start your day off so much better by just spending ten minutes talking with Christ.
Find God in the little things everyday, make time to meet with him and ask him what he wants you to do that day. It could be something as simple as giving a high-five or a smile, or maybe it could be to buy that guy behind you in the Starbucks line a drink. God has an amazing plan for all of us, all you have to do is ask him to let it play out and it will.
