Ever hear the saying actions speak louder than words? This is a phrase I and many other people hate. Why, because if you are like me you don’t always enjoy working for something. Laziness is a constant battle for me as I am sure it is for most people. I am always saying, “It’s not laziness, it’s selective participation.” Even if I’m not being lazy I give up after I get what I want.
When I was eight years old I really really wanted my ears pierced. My parents told me I could only get my ears pierced if I stopped with the consistent nail-biting and sucking. So for the next few months I was on constant alert of when my nails were in my mouth. I was the definition of determined.
The day had come, I finally got my ears pierced. Later that night the hands were in my month. I had gotten what I wanted. There was no need to stop right? Wrong! By doing that I demonstrated laziness.
Fast forward two years, I was ten years old, mature in every way (at least that’s what I thought). Here I was battling laziness again only this time in my schoolwork. Every day I was redoing an assignment I did poorly the day before. Would I ever learn? Fast forward a few months, laziness wasn’t just holding me back in school anymore, it was causing fights between me and my parents, it was keeping me from my destiny.
Laziness can do the same thing to you also. Michael Jordan once said, “All I know is that I never want to be average.” Being average sucks! No one was meant to be average, people say its okay to be average or that average is good but being average means getting a C in school and who gets C’s? Only lazy people!
You and I were created in God’s image. Do you think He is average? By being lazy you will be average and you will be unable to fulfill your destiny. Everyone is unique and so is everyone’s destiny. By not fulfilling your destiny you rob a precious gift from the world. The gift of what only YOU can do for the world.
In the end you need to decide what path you will choose. The path of destiny, work, and fulfillment or the easy path that will never allow you to fulfill your dreams or your destiny.
If you’re wondering if I ever learned how to overcome laziness, the answer is little by little. I have grown significantly in conquering laziness, but it is something I may never be able to get rid of entirely. The temptation may always be hard for me, as it might be for you, but you can always choose the correct path. Just like I have learned, so can you.
Now go out and show the world who you are and what the gift of your destiny is, without laziness holding you back.
Remember the choice is always yours :]
