Sometimes I sit back and think of all the things we have been through together. Boy has it been an adventure. It’s been filled with ups and downs, love and hurt, pain and beauty.
I wanted to share some things with you that you maybe don’t know, about you. About how this Mom sees the little boy and now the man I am raising. Some things I need you to know, about you.
You are strong. You are strong in so many ways kid. Physically, you are a brick wall. But, what I really need you to know is that, on the inside, you are stronger than you know. I have watched you persevere through a multitude of hard things…really hard things. You have been given challenges that some haven’t even experienced and never will. You have been kicked down more than once. You have been let down more than once. You have been hurt more than a few times. And, regardless of all of it, you have remained the most tenderhearted, grace-giving person I have ever known.
You are enough. There are people in this world, in your world, that will try to steal every ounce of joy from you. Don’t let them. They will tell you that who you are, what you look like, what you believe and the life you have is not enough. THEY ARE WRONG. Everything about you is enough. Your heart is kind, you are fiercely loyal, you serve others well, you are someone people can count on, you are funny, you are creative, you are gentle, you are a crazy amazing brother, I could go on and on. You were made by the Creator, just as you are. God master-crafted you. All that you are and will be is enough!
You are loved. Son, you are so very loved. My heart sometimes feels like it could burst with all the love that it contains for you. There are so many people around you that love you and who you are. I wish you could see yourself through our eyes. You are an easy guy to love because you love others well. I am proud of the man you are becoming and the tender heart that you have. I am so very thankful God chose you for me and me for you.
This next thing on the list is not about you, but it is something you need to know and understand.
God doesn’t leave NO MATTER WHAT. I know it feels like your heart has been crushed too many times by too many people. I know that it’s hard to trust. I know far too many people have let you down. I know. But, please hear this. GOD IS ALWAYS THERE! He will never leave you. He will show up for you. He will protect you. You can trust in Him. You matter to Him. He is a light in the darkness. He has a plan for your life. He sees you and He hears you. He wants you…as a child, as a son. I promise you, that if you hold on tightly to this, the hard stuff is a little less hard. Your heart will trust more knowing that Jesus will always be there in your corner.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
I love you,
I hope as you read this letter to my son, you may be encouraged to tell someone you love some things they may not know or feel about themselves. May you also be encouraged if you feel like you don’t hear these things about yourself enough.
