There has never been a time where I haven’t been completely aware that my name is different. Growing up in the 80’s and 90’s, I was always the one with the strange name in school. I’ve heard it all. From mean and cruel comments, to corny puns and snippy comebacks, nothing surprises me anymore. I will say that I am grateful for the slew of wacky kid names that have come out of Hollywood in the last 20 years. The naming trend has trickled down to the common folk and I find myself meeting others who have to explain themselves just as often.
There is one time of year in particular that the comments seem to come at an increased rate. You probably already know where this is going. Yup, Christmas time.
Everywhere I go I see my name. I hear it in songs, see it on billboards, and I find myself using it in sentences.
Season’s greetings
Tis the season
Jesus is the reason for the season
Every year my parents signed their Christmas cards,
Love,
Jerry, Debby, and Season’s greetings
When I was young, I hated the attention that Christmas brought to my name. But something has changed. I now have a favorite phrase to spot, and when I see it, I beam with pride.
Jesus is the reason for the season
Heck yeah, He is! Without Jesus I am nothing. With Jesus I have purpose. He is my reason for loving and living, and in Him I have hope! Ok, I get it, I know that this phrase is in reference to the reason we celebrate Christmas. It’s about Jesus, not Santa or gifts under the tree. But come on! What a great reminder!
There was once a great idea. It was such a great idea that the Lord put skin on him and the eternal heavenly Jesus, became a real life human being. He was born and because of his life and death, we can all have the promise of eternal life. Jesus is the reason we celebrate Christmas. Jesus is the reason for this Season (me!). And hey, he’s the reason you can celebrate too!
I now love that my name is associated with Christmas. Go ahead, make a joke, or give me your best pun, I can take it. And every time you see the phrase Jesus is the reason for the season I want you to replace the word season with your name! Trust me, you’ll love it!
Love,
Season’s Greetings
Love it!!!!
Haha, I laugh because this made me happy!
Jesus is the reason for Theresa! So awesome!
