It is OK to have tangled lights, and a leaning tree. Missing extension cords. Wreaths that blow off the door, Christmas balls that fall to the floor. Your pie is allowed to be not as flaky as you had hoped. Your elf on the shelf may go missing. Your dog may eat all your candy canes (and may even be responsible for the missing elf.)
Social media has provided us a place to share little windows of our lives, it has also given us the unnecessary pressure to be as perfect as each picture we see. We aren’t. Take heart! The perfect tree may have toppled right after that Instagram picture, The elf on the shelf may have lost both arms and his head right after you posted him to Facebook. The holidays are imperfect. You can be too.
Remember, Christmas is about God’s Son, coming here to this earth. He came here to share the imperfections – the heartaches and the simple joys. He gets it – He understands you – He accepts your leaning tree, your arm-less elf, even your less than flaky pie crust.
