Have you ever noticed how easy it is to have a terrible attitude? Lately, I’ve been catching myself having these stinkfests over nothing much at all. If I’m being totally honest, I have a pretty wonderful life. Don’t get me wrong, I have my troubles as we all do…but overall, I have been extraordinarily blessed. And even while knowing this, my heart quickly forgets and becomes full of grouchiness and blah!
My husband always says that giving thanks shifts everything – your heart, attitude, mindset, and your day! You can go from being super crabby to having overwhelming joy when you choose gratitude…so here is my gratitude list for today!
I am thankful for my electricity bill! It reminds me that I’ve been staying cool and comfortable in my house even in the crazy Southern California heat. I am also thankful that we can pay our bills and that God provides abundantly for my family!
I am thankful for the massive piles of laundry in the hallway. It means I have lots of loved ones in my home and they are healthy, strong and playing so hard that they have to change their clothes very frequently!
I am thankful for the work I have to do. Even though I can feel overwhelmed by the amount of things I need to get done, I am also reminded that I am useful, capable and created for a purpose. Thank you God!
I am thankful for this rather large pimple on my forehead! Hooray for the fact that I only have one pimple! Hooray for the fact that I rarely get pimples anymore! I am so very grateful! I am also thankful that I can find the humor in having pimples and wrinkles at the same time! How odd and hilarious!
I am thankful for my overly stuffed and crowded kitchen cabinets. The truth is, I have lots of food in the house and we never ever go hungry. What a blessing!
I am thankful for my dirty toilets. I can clean them very easily and they work really well even after my family unleashes the worst explosions! I am also very thankful that I don’t have to use an outhouse or a porta-potty on a regular basis. So very grateful!
I am thankful for the start of a new school year. Yes, I am sad to see the end of summer break. But I am super thankful that my kids get to go to great schools and receive an amazing education. I am thankful for teachers who have loving patience and kindness for their students. I am praising Jesus that I am not homeschooling (did it for one year and almost died!) And I am giddy that I am almost done with the question, “Mom, what are we going to do today that’s fun???” (insert pounding my head against a wall here!)
One last thanks…I am thankful for you! Thankful that you spent a little portion of your day reading this post. May God encourage you and give you a heart of joy and thanks through whatever you are facing today!
