What if we were raised with the mindset that we have a tremendous calling upon our lives?
What if we were taught to use our school years as a time and opportunity to discover our gifts, talents, dreams and then to fine tune them?
What if we were never given a list of jobs to choose from, but rather to develop careers that may not even have a model, because each of us is so uniquely made, that no one has ever done what we were created for and have the desire to do? In fact, a regular job simply could not contain our creativity.
What if we were taught that our unique design was intended to be used for pouring out love, compassion and encouragement in such a unique way that the world would never question the existence of God. What if we experience him through each other’s supernatural insight, touch, love and talent?
I recently met with a 16-year-old girl, who shared with me the tormenting years of being bullied during elementary and junior high school. By the time she reached high school, the years of bullying had taken a toll on her and she rebelled in the worst of ways, wreaking havoc on her life and the lives of those who really loved her. The good news is, she’s making strides to turn her life around and, now, because of the pain she endured, she has a huge passion to educate society and be an advocate for wounded teens. Not only that, she now has a powerful testimony she can use to bring hope and healing. She wasn’t sure what this looks like or what to label herself, but when I told her she could create the position, the career or ministry, she got excited because, as she said, she does not fit in any box! This birthed a hope, a dream, a passion and a desire and gave her life a purpose!
This is the bold and courageous generation that is willing to crush the status quo and create a world beyond our imagination. It’s a generation that at first may have shocked and disappointed their parents when they shared that they weren’t willing to embrace the nine-to-five work week and the American Dream. They are a generation that is challenging us to dream big.
I believe the day has arrived, when many people won’t be able to give a title for what they do. They are going to have to explain what their gifts and talents are and how they use them in order to explain what they do. We are stepping into a new era where most people will know what their purpose is, because they have been raised to cultivate their gifts and to dream. Depression, suicide and hopelessness will be a thing of the past.
I pray we would all welcome this new world of creatives and all the freedom they bring, focusing on helping them to think outside the box and steward their calling. In return, I believe it will challenge and encourage us to also go after our dreams!
