On any given day, I have about 5,000 things happening. Yes, that may be an exaggeration, but it feels like 5,000. Its probably more like 4,999. The days go by and I find myself asking where they went and how I made it through. Between work, kids, sports, ministry, groceries, dinners, homework, family time, 20 minutes of required reading for my seven year old and everything else, I am exhausted 110% of the time.
I have a lot of people ask me, ” How do you do it?” Well, let me tell you. I sure do not do it by myself. I have wine…just kidding…maybe. But, seriously, I have Jesus and then I have my people. I dearly love and cherish my people. They are a mixed bag of nuts that I wouldn’t trade for the world. This bag of nuts includes many flavors and let me tell why I love them.
In life, you go through seasons…ups and downs of joy and suffering, calms and storms, peaks and valleys. In these seasons, YOU NEED YOUR PEOPLE!! These are the dear ones that you can be your full self with and they still love every single part of you. These are the ears on the other end of the phone when you are having the roughest day of your life and need a lifeline, these are the ones you laugh until you cry with, these are the ones that you can sit in total silence with and it’s still the best time you ever had, these are the ones that love your children as much as you do, these are the ones you reciprocate these things back to without a second thought. When one of you hurts, you all hurt. When one of you celebrates, you all do. They are neighbors, friends, family, pastors. These are the people that do not hesitate to offer their help at any given moment. Whether its helping with my kids, helping with a struggle or helping with my mental state, they show up!
These amazing humans are “how I do it”. God has placed incredible individuals in my path. Some have come and gone and that’s ok. They were still my people and I was their person for a spell. But, the chosen few, as I like to fondly think of them, are the ones He knew would stay. Through the mud and the filth, they are there. Through the mountain top moments of my life, they are there. They get me. They love me. They know me.
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another
My people sharpen me. Through wisdom, love and friendship, they expand my heart and help me navigate through this life. They encourage me. They have shown me what true faith is like. Each one of us is handcrafted by our Creator with gifts and feelings and special things that make us who we are. I know my people pour those things into my life so that I become better for getting to tap into those key specialties that they were created for. I am better for knowing them. I encourage each one of you….FIND YOUR PEOPLE. Your life will be better for it.
And if you are one of my people reading this…THANK YOU! For speaking life and love and encouragement into my life. For telling me when I am wrong, even when I don’t like it. For loving and caring for my children. For pointing me to Jesus. For your strength and wisdom through it all. I am blessed and forever changed because you are my people!
