A few weeks ago, I woke up from a dream that I have had many times in my life. This time I was in a safe and secure house similar to the one I grew up in. All of a sudden my Dad called to warn me about a suspicious man that was quickly heading my way. I looked out the window and saw a man filled with rage walking quickly toward my house. I raced to the front door and tried to lock it. I was so scared that I had trouble managing the lock. Then I ran to the other doors. Finally, I secured the house. I looked out the window again and I couldn’t see him anymore. My heart was filled with fear. Where did he go? Right as I saw him coming to the front door, I woke up. I was so relieved but so anxious about the dream. I decided to write it down.
Here’s what I saw: the man trying to break in is the enemy, temptation, bad attitudes, darkness, sin, etc. When he approaches me, I have some options. I can run away in fear and panic and lock all the doors frantically because my heart isn’t the least bit prepared for a battle against darkness.
A second option: I can have all the doors locked, hide in my house and never leave – also living in fear or doubt of hope.
Another option: I can be outside not noticing the darkness coming my way, totally oblivious and, in turn, get violated, hurt, deceived, or even murdered! Lord, have mercy!
OR!!!!! The best option: I can be alert, on watch, equipped, in anticipation of victory, at the door waiting, knowing that the authority I carry in the name of Jesus Christ will overcome all evil and send it away. Glory to God!
I must be on watch when the enemy tries to creep in! I must be courageous and bold, speaking the truth of God’s Word over my life and situation. I must know and believe that Christ lives in me and through Him, I have the power to overcome every sin that so easily entangles me! Greater is He that is in me that he that is in the world! Hallelujah!
So when the enemy comes towards me, I will stand before him in strength, not fear. I will choose to walk in love and victory by claiming God’s goodness and not falling for the lies that He may whisper.
I Am An Overcomer,
If this post spoke to you, here are a few verses I think you will like. Be encouraged!!
But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.
1 John 4:4 (NLT)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)
So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7 (NLT)
