I love to get the whole family involved with decorating for Christmas. I find it fun to celebrate our Savior’s birth by taking down the normal everyday decor and putting up anything that symbolizes the celebration of Jesus. The kids have fun for about ten minutes until they start wrestling and getting loud. My husband loves to start pulling out all the decorations and lights the Friday right after Thanksgiving. Some of us (I’m wondering reader if this includes you) love our annual Holiday traditions!
I actually love when we start new traditions as well. For instance in the past we had colorful lights on our Christmas tree, but this year we celebrate new life for our marriage so I loved changing to all white sparkly lights! And instead of hanging the icicle lights outside, we bought one of those projectors that covers the whole house in lights!
How fun it is!
My ten-year-old loves how they shine in on his room at night. I actually embrace change and am loving the simplicity we find in it! Because really, don’t we sometimes get caught up in how well everything should be? It can even become a stressful time.
Well I encourage you today, to put the fun back into it and make it simple. Maybe this year don’t even pull out all the ornaments from the past 25 years and just be happy about it! I am pleased to say I am relaxing in it this year and trying to create more peace and fun in the home. Choose a new tradition. Get those comfy jammies on, dance, get goofy, cuddle by the fire, read a book, enjoy some hot tea or cocoa. Intentionally invite rest and fun into your Holiday.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
