Ok, it is definitely one of those days. Cramps, snappy, and I would wrestle a small child for a piece of chocolate! But as I drive to the grocery store I see a woman walking up the street pulling a cart full of plastic bottles and a bag. I speculate she was coming from the shelter and was collecting bottles for a little change. I keep driving, because what can I really do?
I get through my shopping list with my darling toddler by my side, and as I am walking out I spot the woman next in line to check out. So I pull out a twenty and hand it to the attendant and say, “Her groceries are on me.” She replied with an attitude that thoroughly annoyed me and a hand on her hip, “She isn’t buying groceries.” I replied with a smile, “Well let her keep it as change”.
I handed her the money and quickly walked out. The goal wasn’t to be seen. The goal wasnt to have a conversation with the lady in need. It was simply to live out Mathew 25:35, Where God says to his people you gave me a drink when I was thirsty. You fed me when I was hungry. Period. That is it. To serve Jesus. But here is the cool part of my story.
As I got to my car I wondered what the attendant said to the lady in need as she handed her the twenty bucks. I wondered if she even did. And then it hit me. It doesn’t matter. Sometimes God uses us to feed the hungry, and sometimes God uses us to feed the hungry in front of the spiritually hungry. I think my act had more impact on the attendant today than on the lady in need.
So next time I feel the tug, I won’t analyse the situation. I will just keep to myself the why God? Or the how come God? I am learning that His ways are more intricate in design and are so much more than the surface business I fix my eyes on. So I encourage you friend, when God says go…….GO! What a privilege to be a part of His intricate plan.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in.
