“It’s been hard, but the Lord is with me”
It was the Women’s Outdoor Summer Book Club’s last meeting.
As we were discussing the book, one of God’s breath-taking sunsets stopped us. As the sun receded, the light shimmered across the sky, through delicate clouds creating flowing colors of pink and yellow. We all took a moment to gaze in wonder at God’s artistry gracing our eyes before continuing on with the meeting.
We had a few chapter questions to get through, but we took the time to share and listen to each other’s life experiences, the joys, the sorrows, the laughter, and the hardships. Their words were important. Each woman there was loved and valued. We didn’t get through all the chapters. It was important that each of God’s daughters, our sisters, felt loved and heard.
Being smart, brilliant daughters of God, we skipped to the last question.
The question asked us to share our testimony of when we accepted Jesus as Lord and/or a re-commitment to Jesus. We went around the circle with each daughter of God sharing her testimony. I was the last one up. A short version of my testimony can be found here in HerRoar’s profile.
At the end of my testimony, I said, “It’s been hard, but the Lord is with me.”
Internally, I gasped. I questioned whether or not I should have said, “It’s been hard.” A decade ago at a Women’s Ministry Meeting, I received a Word from a speaker, “You had a hard life.” Honestly, at the time, it didn’t encourage me.
But Holy Spirit told me it was okay. Even though there are difficult times, messy moments, and failures, there are beautiful moments and victories. The hard times do not disqualify me from God’s love. Through it all, the Lord’s love and faithfulness is always with me; it draws me to Him.
“FRIENDS, WHEN LIFE GETS REALLY DIFFICULT, DON’T JUMP TO THE CONCLUSION THAT GOD ISN’T ON THE JOB. INSTEAD, BE GLAD THAT YOU ARE IN THE VERY THICK OF WHAT CHRIST EXPERIENCED. THIS IS A SPIRITUAL REFINING PROCESS, WITH GLORY JUST AROUND THE CORNER…SO IF YOU FIND LIFE DIFFICULT BECAUSE YOU’RE DOING WHAT GOD SAID, TAKE IT IN STRIDE. TRUST HIM. HE KNOWS WHAT HE’S DOING, AND HE’LL KEEP ON DOING IT.”
1 PETER 4:12-13, 19 (MSG)
How does he do it?
After a period of fighting off negative thoughts, but knowing that the Lord is with me and enough for me, the Lord gave me two gifts:
- Sharing moments with special friends at an Encouragement Training Weekend.
- The Speaker had a Word for me from God which touched my spirit,
“I have not forgotten you.”
God, Jesus, Holy Spirit is always there for me.
Back when the Speaker told me, “You had a hard life,” the Lord wanted me to know that He sees me.
We all go through difficult moments, know that the Lord is there with you. I share with you the Word that was given to me from God, “I have not forgotten you.”
Growing in Grace,
P.S. The next opportunity you have to join a book club, sign-up! The community and personal growth that comes from sharing life experiences and voicing your thoughts with a group of women is a life changer.
